According to the jury’s citation, “The award for Best Director honours a filmmaker who transforms a simple premise into an exploration of faith, community, and politics. With sharp intelligence and a deft tonal command, the director begins with a spark of absurdist humour that quickly transcends into another, to a more complex narrative level. The film masterfully builds from a quiet domestic dilemma to an unexpected conclusion, posing urgent questions without easy answers. In a world where politics and religion are often rendered simplistically, this director finds a surprising, ingenious path into the heart of these conflicts. For this smart, confident, and original work, the jury presents the award for Best Director to Ananth Subramaniam for the film BLEAT!.”
